Rangers are reportedly eyeing a deal for Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell as he finds himself out of favour at Carrow Road and his contract ticks down at the Championship club.
The talented 24-year-old has played 18 times for the Canaries this season but hasn’t been seen since mid-November, having been an unused substitute in Norwich’s recent 1-0 defeat to Watford.
The Rangers links come via the Scottish Sun, who have now made rumours linking Rangers and Todd Cantwell a little more official after conversation surrounding the former England U21 international sprung up online.
However, far from suggest a deal is done, the report claims that Rangers are pondering over a January move or signing Cantwell down on a pre-contract given his current deal expires in the summer.
Young, English and having previously impressed during a stint in the Premier League, the last few seasons haven’t exactly gone to plan for the player, who can play in central midfield or off the left.
Rangers linked to Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell
A product of the Norwich City youth academy, Todd Cantwell sprung into life during the 19/20 season, where the talented midfielder scored six goals in the English top flight as his side were relegated.
Since then there has been a slight decline, with the player finding himself increasingly out of the Norwich side in recent seasons and seemingly incapable of recapturing his earlier form.
The links also come at an interesting time for Todd Cantwell and Norwich City, who have just hired ex-Huddersfield manager David Wagner to replace Dean Smith at Carrow Road.
The defeat to Watford leaves yo-yo outfit Norwich 11th in a competitive Championship and perhaps German coach Wagner will want to greater assess his squad before anyone can leave.
Set to play Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup this weekend, Rangers fans will shave one eye on the game to see if Todd Cantwell plays for Norwich City but these are links that certainly appear to fit the Michael Beale mould.
The Rangers boss has previously admitted he is already speaking to players about coming into the side and that the Gers want to add two or three names in this window.
Todd Cantwell has also had loan stints at Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands and AFC Bournemouth in his career.
Meanwhile, one of the Ibrox club’s reported transfer rivals have been handed a substantial Premier League cash boost.
