Rangers centre-back Filip Helander has issued a plea for more playing time, as quoted by the Rangers Twitter account, in a press conference previewing Sunday’s game against St Johnstone.
The 26-year-old starred on Thursday evening, in the 1-0 win over Feyenoord, in what was his first real test as a Ger.

Helander signed for the club back in July but has struggled for playing time behind Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson. In fact, the Europa League opener was just his third competitive appearance for the club.
“You always hope to play so of course, I would like to play more”, said Helander, as quoted by the Rangers Twitter. “As long as you feel fresh and have the energy you want to play I think that is the case for everyone.”
Will Gerrard listen?
It’s hard to see how, after putting in such a composed shift against Feyenoord, the manager could leave out Helander for the trip to Perth.
He was rock solid at the back, reading the game well, while he dealt comfortably with anything in the air.

The manager did hint that there will be changes, but if one centre-back is to drop out, perhaps it’s more likely to be Connor Goldson. The vice-captain has made 14 appearances already this season and could sit out for Nikola Katic or George Edmundson.
Helander has had to be patient since his switch from Serie A to Scotland, but based on what he showed last night, he’ll be seeing a lot more action going forward.
