Rangers may well be bracing themselves for official Tigres interest in Alfredo Morelos amid the latest surrounding Eintracht Frankfurt striker Rafael Santos Borre.

Reports coming out of Mexico earlier in the month had suggested that the Liga MX side have a three-man shortlist as they hunt for a new striker this January.

Topping the list was Colombian striker Rafael Santos Borre, who Rangers fans will remember from the Europa League Final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The striker scored the equaliser in the Seville final and also netted the winning penalty after a 1-1 draw AET.

As the Bundesliga club stand firm regarding the 27-year-old striker, Tigres attentions may well now turn to the second man on their shortlist in Alfredo Morelos.

That’s after a bid was reportedly rejected for Santos Borre, with Eintracht Frankfurt insisting they want to keep the striker and former club River Plate complicating proceedings by also entering the race.

“I don’t really understand what was said,” said sporting director Markus Krösche.

“I think he feels comfortable with us. He is a very important player for us who will have playing time. I don’t want to give Rafael Borré away! We don’t want to lose him – we want to keep the team together.”

Rangers fans will now be watching on closely when it comes to Alfredo Morelos, with the out-of-contract Ibrox striker said to be next on the Tigres shortlist.

The Gers forward’s current deal expires in the summer and is now free to speak with other clubs.

The third striker on the Tigres shortlist is said to be Argentine forward Mateo Retegui, who currently plies his trade for Tigre in his home country.

Meanwhile, a Rangers-linked midfielder has been spotted in Spain amid high-profile reports surrounding an Ibrox switch.
