Steven Gerrard has singled out Borna Barisic for major praise ahead of the trip to Hearts, as quoted by the Evening Times.

The 26-year-old left-back endured a difficult start to his Ibrox career but has turned things around of late with a series of outstanding displays.

Injury to Jon Flanagan allowed him a free run in the side, and he’s started the last six games to great effect. Its form that hasn’t gone unnoticed by his manager.

Rangers boss Gerrard praises Barisic

“I think it might be a dressing room thing with Borna,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Times. “He is feeling more comfortable in the dressing room, the players are showing him more love.”

“He is in a fantastic place but he deserves the credit for it because he is the one who has pushed himself. The penny has dropped about what we want from him. And all the praise which has been coming his way, he deserves it all because he has been really, really consistent.”

Verdict

Most Rangers fans were divided over the merits of playing Barisic until recent times, but now he’s regularly singled out for praise and even has his own song.

Despite playing 180 minutes for his country in Euro 2020 Qualifiers last week and the return to fitness of Flanagan, he’s near-certain to start against Hearts.

Bears will be hoping to see more of his solid defensive work and dangerous crossing from the left flank, while a third successful free-kick of the season wouldn’t go amiss either.

From a questionable signing to an integral first-team player, Borna has completed a remarkable transformation.
