New Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be joined at Ibrox by former Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay and first-choice assistant Jean-Paul van Gastel in his backroom staff.
Much of the conversation of the last few days has surrounded who Gio, 46, will bring in to replace the talented backroom staff who left for Aston Villa and Heart & Hand confirmed the pair’s arrival after van Bronckhorst was announced as manager.

This means that Gio got his man when it comes to van Gastel who is currently in charge of Chinese Super League club Guangzhou.
This is the side that van Gastel joined alongside van Bronckhorst back at the beginning of 2020 and he took over full-time after Gio returned to the Netherlands.
A highly-regarded football coach, this news will come as a major boost to van Bronckhorst who has used the Dutchman in each of his previous roles.
Roy Makaay to join Rangers backroom staff
The move for Roy Makaay, 46, will also be of interest to Rangers fans and be a bit of a blast from the past for those who haven’t followed the former striker’s career.
The former Dutch international striker had a revered and potent striking career around Europe but most pertinently impressed during four years with Deportivo la Coruna and another four with Bayern Munich.
In a Rangers side that is well stowed with attacking talent, working with Makaay is an exciting prospect and these three will make up the bones of the Gers backroom team.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst is obviously well versed with Rangers and the Old Firm derby but Makaay also has previous in downing Celtic.
The striker netted twice against the Parkhead club in the Champions League in 2003 to dump them on the European stage in a 2-1 win.
