Rangers have sent midfielder John Lundstram for a scan as manager Michael Beale reveals the player suffered a “nasty” injury blow in the victory over Ross County.

The ex-Sheffield United midfielder was hooked after only 11 minutes of the eventual 2-1 win, with replacement Malik Tillman opening the scoring before Borna Barisic’s deflected free-kick cancelled out Jordan White’s equaliser.

But as Rangers huffed and puffed on the pitch at times against the Staggies’ stubborn defence, off it even worse news could be to come with influential midfielder John Lundstram sustaining a “nasty” injury.

Ibrox manager Michael Beale couldn’t clarify the gravity of the situation following the win over Ross County, but did confirm the player would be sent for a scan as a result.

“It destabilised us today,” said Beale.

“John is really important to our structure. He was fantastic in midweek.

“He’s gone to block a shot and he’s rolled his ankle. It looks like quite a nasty one.

“We will take a scan on that and update after 24 hours.”

John Lundstram suffers Rangers injury

The injury comes after John Lundstram put in one of his best performances of the season in the 3-0 victory away to Hearts in midweek.

Rangers fans have had some grumbles about the performances of the 28-year-old at times this season and Lunny looked to be resurgent return to form in the win at Tynecastle.

Lundstram has also previously revealed that, amid a devastating injury crisis at Rangers this season, he has been playing through the pain barrier amid a knock on his ankle.

“I’ve been playing with an ankle injury like the last three weeks,” Lundstram said on UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett’s official podcast in October last year.

“Just got it scanned on Monday after the last game we had and I’ve just got some tear and a little skin thing. I don’t know the scientific word for it.

“As long as they say ‘it’s structurally sound and you’re not going to do any further damage and you can crack on’, I just crack on.

“I can’t remember the last time I played without some sort of niggle.”

Rangers manager Michael Beale would then reveal that the midfielder has been taking pain-killing injections to keep turning out for the club.

Whilst opinion has been split on John Lundstram this season, it’s clear the midfielder is a leader in the Rangers squad and any long-term injury will be massive blow to the club and team.

It’s just as well Nicolas Raskin is in the door to step in behind him, with the Belgian delighted after making his Ibrox debut.
