Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu has been confirmed as the latest name to be taking part in the upcoming Rangers Weekend of Legends II at Ibrox.

A special Gers Legends XI is set to take part in a friendly with a World Legends XI as some of the biggest names in football descend on Glasgow in an exciting international break fixture.

This follows on from a similar match last season as part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations, where a team led by Real Madrid legend Luis Figo defeat the Ibrox legends 3-2.

Arsenal hero Nwankwo Kanu – who also won the Champions League with Ajax in 2005 – becomes the latest name in a star-studded list and it’ll be something of a Highbury reunion for the former Nigerian international striker.

Robin van Persie – who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2004 when Nwankwo Kanu would leave the then Highbury side – is also booked to play at the match at Ibrox.

Jack Wilshere, who was in the Arsenal youth department from 2001 until leaving the club permanently in 2018, is also set to take part in the Rangers Weekend of Legends.

Arsenal have been at the Emirates Stadium since 2006.

Alongside those former Arsenal players, the likes of Robbie Fowler, Jaap Stam, Joe Cole, Michael Essien and Paul Scholes have also been confirmed, with plenty more in the pipeline.

From the Rangers side of things, a hatful of the club’s former stars are set to be present on the day with Barry Ferguson captaining a team that will include Jermaine Defoe, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols, Saša Papac, Jörg Albertz, Ronald de Boer, Carlos Cuellar and Peter Lovenkrands, amongst many others.

The Rangers Legends will be hoping to defeat their World XI counterparts this time around, with Shota Arveladze putting the Ibrox side ahead before goals from Luis Figo, Carlos Marchena and Ricardo Quaresma had the World Legends in front.

Paul Gascoigne would then grab the headlines with a late goal in a memorable event at Ibrox which is set to be repeated in March. Information is available on the Rangers website.

Meanwhile, Petar Ratkov has been talking about those Ibrox links.
