Nikola Katic encouragingly plays 60 minutes in Reserves defeat

There was disappointment for Rangers’ Reserves yesterday, as they lost for only the second time this season.

The 2-1 defeat was inflicted by Hearts, at Oriam. Graeme Murty’s men dominated the ball while the scores were tied at 1-1, but a late Euan Henderson goal snatched all thee points for the hosts.

It wasn’t a fixture without positives, though. Andy Dallas continued his fine scoring run, while Jordan Rossiter got yet more minutes under his belt.

Yet, Rangers fans will likely be most pleased with the involvement of Nikola Katic.

There were calls for the Croatian to come in for Gareth McAuley against Hamilton. However, there wasn’t even a place for him on the bench, with Jon Flanagan and Joe Worrall preferred as defensive cover.

Steven Gerrard publicly stated that he ‘loved’ the big centre-back at the start of the season. Therefore, his continued absence from the fold is difficult to explain.

Playing time of any description, is a positive though.

Katic was unable to ensure a clean sheet for his side. However, match practice ensures he should be ready for first team action when called upon again.

Perhaps the fact that both he and Rossiter were withdrawn on the hour mark, suggests that they could be involved to some extent against Hibs, tomorrow night.
