Matondo destroyed Clement’s Brugge in eye catching display

New Rangers boss Philippe Clement will be aware of a few players in his squad, mainly from his time in Belgium, with Rabbi Matondo likely to have left a lasting memory.

Cyriel Dessers was at Genk just after the Gers manager left for Club Brugge, Nicolas Raskin played for Standard Liege and Ianis Hagi moved to the Juniper Pro League before coming to Glasgow.

Rangers have a few injury issues but Philippe Clement will be hoping to have Rabbi Matondo back as soon as possible given his display in a Brugge derby.

Rangers hoping for Rabbi Matondo return

A 2-0 win for Cercle Brugge shortly before Clement left Belgium to head to Monaco saw the Wales international at his destructive best.

An early sitter created for Thibo Somers was followed by the 23-year old crashing an effort off the bar from long range in the second half.

Matondo got his assist when more good work down Cercle’s right-hand side ended with the flying machine squaring the ball for David Sousa to tap in.

It was the sort of performance that we started to see at Rangers from Rabbi Matondo after a slow start to his career at Glasgow.

If Clement can get more of the same out of the 11-cap international, then we could be on to a winner.

When Rangers paid a reported £2m for Rabbi Matondo it looked like a good deal given his pedigree and potential.

A redemption arc has seen him go from being tipped to leave to being the first name in the forward line only to see injury stunt his progress.

As shown by his display for Cercle against Clement’s Brugge, Rangers have a match winner in Rabbi Matondo, if the manager can find a place for him.
