Rangers are set to sign Kyle Lafferty within the next 48 hours, according to the Daily Record.
Fresh talks have opened up between both Rangers and Hearts as the Ibrox club look to thrash out a deal. The Jambos continue to look for £750,ooo for their star-striker, but Rangers are convinced they can come to an agreement.
Rangers’ negotiating chiefs believe a deal can be wrapped up before the end of the week. However it remains to be seen if they still value Lafferty as the same price as the Tynecastle club.
Steven Gerrard has consistently voiced his admiration for a third striker. Whilst he hasn’t said anything about Lafferty, it’s been clear that he’s been the number one target for a while.
Rangers have had two bids already turned down for their former front-man, who would return for a second spell at the club. An initial £200k offer several weeks ago was followed up with a player-plus-cash offer earlier this week.
The Gers looked to throw Lee Wallace in as a sweetner in the deal. However, Hearts are adamant they just want cash alone, which Rangers appear ready to provide.
Gerrard only has Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq available, and bringing in Hearts’ top goalscorer would certainly add fresh options.
The deal isn’t expected to be finalised before Rangers face Maribor tomorrow night, with Morelos set to lead the line.
