Ill-judged Rangers tweet backfires as gloating Celtic fans set ambush

The official Rangers Twitter account suffered a predictable backlash as an ill-judged birthday message was ambushed by Celtic supporters.

The Gers support are still licking their wounds following the disappointing 2-1 defeat at Hampden and the last thing they wanted to see was Ryan Jack and Todd Cantwell receiving a round of applause.

But that’s exactly what happened as the Ibrox pair were given a birthday clap by the official Rangers Twitter account as if nothing had just happened at Hampden in the days before.

Both players came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat and this was the first official communication since the match.

Whilst we’re not wanting to take away from the birthday celebrations of either player, we’re pretty certain they’ll have been somewhat mooted given the backdrop of the League Cup Final defeat.

Rangers fans didn’t take too kindly to the message, with the approach not exactly endearing themselves to the Ibrox faithful who’re still suffering from the events of the weekend.

To make matters worse, the official Rangers Twitter message was also hijacked by gloating Celtic fans, who’ve ambushed the post and now backed the Ibrox side’s communications team into a corner.

Rangers Twitter message spectacularly backfires

It’s a small detail, but the tweet hasn’t exactly helped proceedings as those Rangers fans who might’ve been distracted by something else on the internet have had the result thrust back into their psyche.

It’s not just the defeat to Celtic at Hampden which rankles with the fans, as the Rangers support continue to pick the bones of what was a disastrous performance.

The Gers team once again looked timid with the result and performance finally looking like the moment which has broken the resolve of supporters when it comes to this squad of players.

It’s not the first time we’ve been let down by several in this squad and you get the feeling the supporters at Ibrox have run out of patience with them.

Big changes are needed, and we count as many as 14 first-teamers who may well leave Rangers in the summer.
