Rangers star Glen Kamara has appeared to put the coolers on talk of imminently signing a contract, despite claims that the player was close to agreeing a new deal.

The Athletic had previously claimed that the Finnish international midfielder, 25, was closing in on a new deal at Ibrox after a summer of speculation regarding his future.

With only two years left on his current deal, this move would be designed to strengthen Rangers’ position and reward Glen for his influential performances at Ibrox.

As part of this, that report hinted that Rangers would facilitate any “sensible bid” for Kamara’s services and had given the player assurances as such.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard would then reveal that the club had made a “strong” contract offer to Kamara with the decision firmly in the player’s hands.

“There is a real, strong, good offer on the table for Glen, so the speed in which this happens is totally on Glen. The ball is firmly in his court,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“The offer is really good from the club – his advisors are happy with the offer so now it is totally down to Glen.

“I’m sure the question should go in Glen’s direction because we are ready, waiting and hoping that it’s done as soon as possible.

“He’s extremely important to keep at the football club.

“I think his progress since we took him in from Dundee has been clear for everyone to see. He’s gone on to become a real established international player.

“We know he can handle any football game here. I love the kid, I love the player and I’ve made it abundantly clear how much I want him to stay from a personal point of view.”

As the transfer window closed, Athletic Rangers correspondent Jordan Campbell then claimed that Kamara was “expected” to sign the deal.

However, expectant Rangers fans will be interested to hear the player’s take on the situation as he enjoys the international break with Finland.

Kamara revealed that there was interest from elsewhere but has warned “let’s see what happens” when it comes to a new deal.

“Discussions have taken place and are still ongoing,” said Kamara [MTV Uutiset].

“I can’t say much more about it. Let’s see what happens.

“I know there has been interest from different leagues but my focus has always been on Rangers.

“Mostly I thought that if something happens, then it will happen. But it didn’t happen.”

Rangers fans will be hoping Glen Kamara signs a new deal at the club given the player’s influence and ability, Glen now a key feature of Steven Gerrard’s side.
