On Friday afternoon, Rangers confirmed the signing of goalkeeper, Andy Firth, from AFC Barrow.

We speculated that his arrival perhaps opened the door for Wes Foderingham’s departure.
Especially, as another ‘keeper, Stefan Marinovic, had also been on trial during the week.

Yet, it appears that’s not necessarily the case.
“I want Wes to stay here for the remainder of the season”, Gerrard said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“I also understand the situation, he’s desperate to be a no.1. I don’t want to say Wes is 100 per cent staying because I don’t know what the next few days will bring.”

The manager then reiterated the point: “I want to keep him, I want him to push Allan to play. Of course, we all know things can change.”
Should Foderingham remain a Ger, there will be a sense of overkill in the goalkeeping department.
Robby McCrorie has only left on loan. Jak Alnwick is also still a Rangers player, and according to Gerrard, a decision is yet to be made on Marinovic.

Come the end of the season, Rangers could have six goalkeepers on the books.
One can’t help but feel, that’s a touch unnecessary.
