Steven Gerrard has refuted claims that he’s using Rangers as a mere ‘stepping stone’ to the Premier League and a return to Liverpool, as quoted by the Scotsman.
The Gers manager is understood to be on the verge of announcing an extension with the club, despite still having several years remaining on the initial contract he signed in 2018.

With the plans for a new deal leaking to the media, he’s moved to state his complete commitment to the Light Blues.
Gerrard says focus is on Rangers with extension close
“That wasn’t in my thinking when I came here but it has been in the thinking of the majority of everyone else – ‘Oh, Rangers is a stepping stone’ or ‘He’s just going there to rehearse for something else’, said Gerrard, as quoted by the Scotsman. “It’s a load of nonsense. I’ve come here as this is a big opportunity for me and I have no plans of going anywhere else. If I had, I wouldn’t sign a new deal because I still have two and a bit years left on the current one.”
“I didn’t think about extending or a new contract until the club approached me and I certainly wouldn’t turn that down, because I’m really enjoying it and I really appreciate this role and being here.
“I’m happy here. I’m thankful for the opportunity and I’m as hungry as ever to make it a success.”

Verdict
These words will be music to the ears of Rangers fans, most of whom are still 100% behind the manager despite the League Cup final defeat at the weekend.
It’s great to hear him reiterate his commitment to the cause after a setback such as that.
For Bears, it’s vital to have someone at the helm who understands what the club is all about.
The lure of the Premier League is obviously strong for players and managers alike, but the supporters wouldn’t appreciate a boss who came to Ibrox with one eye on potential future projects.
In fairness to Gerrard, his behaviour since his appointment has never suggested anything but total commitment to the cause.
It’s simply his stature in the game in England which has seen rumours and speculation abound.
