Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has confirmed that the Gers squad who travelled to Armenia will undergo special preparations ahead of the club’s clash with Celtic.

The Gers are set to face off against a resurgent Parkhead side at Ibrox this weekend in the first Scottish Premiership Old Firm derby of the season.

However, the Gers have been rocked by a spate of Covid-19 call-offs which saw six first teamers and manager Steven Gerrard miss the trip out East.

But with a threadbare squad undertaking a 7000-mile round trip, McAllister has revealed that the Gers have taken some precautions regarding their travel back to Glasgow.

“In our preparations we’ve decided to stay over,” explain McAllister [Rangers].

“So the players are recovering now, they’ll get back to the hotel, obviously plenty of liquids back on board due to the dehydration.

“We don’t have to rush to an airport to go and sit on an aeroplane for five and a half hours.

“We can get back to the hotel, we can control the food that the players are eating, the players can get to bed and get a decent sleep.

“There’s no rush in the morning. We’ll do a little recovery in the pool tomorrow morning and then we get back to Glasgow – I think we leave here at 1 o’clock.

“We felt that this is the best way to help us navigate through this weekend.”

Rangers host Celtic at 12pm on Sunday morning in the Scottish Premiership and the match is sure to captivate supporters as the Ibrox side look to lay down an early season marker.

Rangers are the Champions and they’ll be determined to prove exactly why in the coming days.

The Ibrox side have also been boosted by the news that several of the club’s first team stars could be set to return this weekend.
