Former Motherwell academy coach Andy Smith, has told the Scottish Sun that Rangers could be signing a gem.
According to an STV report, Jake Hastie has agreed on a deal at Ibrox, which will be completed this week.
It’s been a dramatic rise to prominence for the 20-year-old winger. After all, until January he’d never even featured for the first team at Fir Park.

Smith believes it was always clear he was a big talent. More importantly, though, he works hard with it.
“As a boy, he was terrific to work with,” he told the Scottish Sun.

“He had a real love of training and playing — and always wanted to be out on the pitch with a ball at his feet. His work ethic was really good — he was a good trainer and he actually liked the training, which is good to see in a young player.
“He comes from a really nice family and if the suggestion he’s going to Rangers is correct, I’m delighted for them.
“No disrespect to Motherwell. But, going and working under someone like Steven Gerrard is a great opportunity that no young player could turn down. The big challenge for him now is to go there and make an impression at a big club.”

Verdict

It’s great to hear that if the Gers land Hastie, they’ll be bringing in a dedicated young pro.
With so little experience of senior football, there’s no doubt it will be tough to fit in straight away in blue.
Judging by Smith’s comments, though, this is a talented youngster who has his head screwed on. The Ibrox faithful love players who give their all for the shirt.
If he does sign up for next season, it sounds as though Hastie won’t be shy in putting the effort in.
