Ex-Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has been ruled out of the running for the job at relegated Dundee after leaving his role at Kelty Hearts.
The former Ibrox star has made no bones about his ambitions to eventually prowl the touchline in Govan but for now Thommo continues to cut his teeth
After a successful season at Kelty Hearts, where Kevin Thomson guided the club to League One promotion in their first season in the SPFL, the manager made a surprise exit ahead of the new campaign.
This comes with Kevin Thomson having been named League Two Manager of the Year.
Kelty Hearts accepted the resignations of both Thomson and his assistant Kevin McDonald when it became apparent Thomson’s “aspirations lay away from Kelty Hearts Football Club” [KHFC].
This then spawned rumours that a move to Dundee to replace Mark McGhee after their relegation from the Scottish Premiership could be imminent.
But Dundee-based newspaper the Courier have ruled Kevin Thomson out of the running for the Dens Park job.
According to this report, Shaun Maloney is in the running for the job but the ex-Ibrox midfielder is not.
Ex-Rangers star Kevin Thomson ruled out of Dundee running
For Rangers fans still scorned by the infamous lost Dundee vote at the end of the curtailed 2019/20 season, this will come as a boost.
The Dens Park club aren’t exactly the most popular club amongst the Rangers support but had Kevin Thomson made this switch the fans would certainly back their former player.
The likes of Hamilton Accies and Hartlepool United have also been cited as potential destinations for the ex-pro by Football Scotland.
Kevin Thomson himself also took to Twitter to thank Kelty Hearts and the club’s supporters after tendering his resignation as he looks to move into a full-time coaching role.
Meanwhile, an international icon has been pictured in the new Rangers kit as the Ibrox club secure a summer deal.
