Ex-Rangers hero opens new club account as Bayern star fills £10m void

Former Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo opens his account for Southampton as the club’s replacement in Malik Tillman immediately fills the void left by the Nigeria international.

Aribo sparked a Saints comeback by rounding the keeper and keeping his cool to finish whilst Southampton were 2-0 down to Leeds United.

This was the 26-year-old’s first Premier League goal in only his second appearance in the English top flight and only nine minutes later Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side were level courtesy of Kyle Walter-Peters.

Saints had found themselves 2-0 down at St Mary’s courtesy of a Rodrigo double for Leeds United.

This summer seen the Gers move the former Charlton midfielder on for a fee which could reach £10m with the influential star entering the final year of his deal.

To put into perspective Aribo’s contribution to Rangers, no player in world football managed more than than the monumental 70 games the midfielder played for club and country last season.

Even scoring in the Europa League Final, Joe Aribo was a big game player for Rangers and there were fears that the club would struggle to replace him. Step forward Malik Tillman.

Malik Tillman replacing Joe Aribo influence at Rangers

Signed on loan from Bayern Munich, it hasn’t taken long for the 20-year-old attacking midfielder to steal the hearts of Rangers fans and help soothe the pain of Joe Aribo’s exit.

Etching himself into Ibrox folklore by scoring the third and most decisive goal in the comeback Champions League qualifying victory over Union Saint Gilloise, Tillman followed this impressive display up with yet another goal and performance against St Johnstone.

Once again rising at the back post, the midfielder got Rangers underway in a 4-0 victory with a thumping first half header from a James Tavernier cross.

Rangers fans certainly have a new hero in the Bayern star and let’s hope across the course of the season the USA international can contribute the same or even more than Joe Aribo.

When it comes to the Southampton midfielder, Rangers fans will be wishing Joe Aribo all the best down south but it certainly appears they’ve moved on quickly with Malik Tillman filling the void left by the Nigerian’s departure.

Now, about that option-to-buy…
