Eros Grezda starts Rangers Colts fixture amid talk of Ibrox exit

Rangers Colts are at Berwick this evening in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup.
It’s a good chance for many of the club’s exciting youth prospects to test themselves in a competitive game against a senior side, with Dapo Mebude admitting on Monday the group was looking forward to the challenge [Rangers.co.uk].

He starts the fixture alongside the usual suspects like Josh McPake, Jordan Houston and Lewis Mayo. However, there’s one bizarre inclusion in the starting XI – Eros Grezda.

Eros Grezda starts Rangers Colts tie despite agent’s comments

The Albanian international has failed to settle at Rangers and endured a disastrous 2018/19 season.
There’s been plenty of speculation over his future this summer and earlier on Tuesday, comments made by his agent suggested he was finally on the verge of leaving the club [Daily Record].
Yet, his inclusion for this tie doesn’t quite seem to tally with that.

What benefit would Rangers derive from giving Grezda a spot in the Colts team ahead of an up and coming youngster, if his departure is imminent?
If his agent’s comments are true, the only logical explanation is that they’re giving the winger the chance to build up match fitness before his move, so there are no hitches. Yet, by the same token, his participation leaves him at risk of picking up an injury which could jeopardise any prospective transfer.
Perhaps, Grezda’s agent is bluffing and Steven Gerrard’s comments still stand. The manager recently stated that no satisfactory bids had been made for the player and that consequently, he was remaining with the club for the time being [

It’s a strange tie for the player to be involved in, given his status at Ibrox. It looks like his bridges have already been burned with the first team and even if he scores a hattrick against the fourth-tier side, he’s unlikely to feature under Stevie G again any time soon.
