Ejaria's comments showcase Rangers' new-found confidence

It would be an incredible achievement if they managed it, but is Ovie Ejaria being overambitious when it comes to talk of winning a league title?

It’s something that was laughed off by everyone at the start of the season. However, people might not be laughing for much longer, as Rangers look more like credible challengers with every passing game.

That belief has filtered down to the players at Ibrox. The Liverpool loanee clearly has his eyes on the main prize, and his recent comments certainly indicate this.

“If we win next week, it would be a big confidence boost for us. Could we stay there? Yes, definitely. But we have to take each game and use the confidence from each match,” Ejaria told the Scottish Sun.

When asked about whether Rangers could stay at the top, Ejaria replied with: “Yes, definitely.”

Ejaria shows there is genuine belief in a title challenge

This is a major statement from the youngster. They are comments that could make him look very foolish at the end of the season. Despite this, if nothing else, it shows that there is sincere belief in this Rangers squad that they can push Celtic all the way.

Rangers are undefeated at Ibrox over 14 games this season, a stat which proves Gerrard’s men are not prepared to be rolled over like previous seasons. Considering how far the club fell, to win the league after everything that’s happened would be one of Rangers’ biggest achievements.

Celtic should realistically be miles ahead of everyone in the league, having collected millions in European prizes and transfer fees over recent seasons. Despite this, Celtic have never been closer, which is a testament to the early work Gerrard has put into the club.

The optimism around the club is infectious. Everyone at Ibrox can feel it. It is fuel for the growing belief Rangers can topple the double treble winners.

Ejaria’s comments represent what everyone at the club is feeling, he’s just the first to say it.

If Rangers can keep within touching distance of Celtic, and then win the Old Firm clash against the Hoops, there is no reason why Ejaria’s comments can’t be fulfilled.
