Are these the new Rangers home kits for 2022/23 season?

It’s getting near to that time of year again when clubs start to release the first images of next season’s kits – and one photo doing the rounds on social media could be next season’s Rangers home kit.

The unverified image appears to show the 2022/23 Gers Castore kit having been sent out to one fan who had ordered the Legends shirt ahead of this weekend’s event marking the club’s 150th anniversary.

Looking very similar to the 2009/10 home kit – which itself was a nod to a kit from 1989 – the checkerboard design also has a rounded collar and a new sponsor on the sleeve – heating firm Boxt.

So far, the club has yet to announce any sort of partnership with Boxt – although Rangers wouldn’t be the first club to link up with them as Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are among their existing partners.

The shirt also features the 32Red branding across the front with Sportemon Go again adorning the rear of the kit.

Interestingly, the alleged new shirt has done away with the five stars above the club’s badge again, appearing to have killed off the addition to the kits after they were taken away for this season’s 150th anniversary season.

If the shirt is legit – and that is a VERY big if just now – the fact that one has accidentally been shipped to a fan suggests the club and Castore are in a good position to be able to launch the new design.

It will be interesting to see how the Rangers support responds to the apparent new kit, with Castore’s offerings so far very much splitting opinion across the fanbase.

While the new strip isn’t likely to be confirmed for the next month or two – a return to the Scottish Cup final could see Rangers revive an old tradition and wear the new season’s kit in the showpiece, should they get that far.

Meanwhile, Rangers have the chance to give Jermain Defoe a perfect send of ahead of this weekend’s legends event.
