Rangers star Connor Goldson has fired Rangers pair Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos a warning that the grass isn’t always greener outside of Ibrox.

The Ibrox vice-captain also indirectly pointed to the likes of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, who have struggled since their respective switches to Southampton (£10m) and Ajax (£23m).

Speaking as Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent’s contract ticks down, the Rangers vice-captain has warned the pair to choose wisely with life often very different away from Ibrox.

The pressure of expectation might be huge at Rangers, but going from an environment where you literally need to win every single weekend to one where victories are sporadic is a dramatic career shift.

“Listen, would I love them to stay? Yes. But they have to make their own decision for their careers,” said Connor Goldson [Herald].

“I didn’t really want anyone speaking to me about it. It was my decision to make with my wife and my family.

“It’s their decision. Listen they are good players and if they want to stay we will be really happy to have them here.

“But if they don’t then Rangers Football Club has to move on and move on quickly to get new players who are ready to win because that’s what we are here for.

“You look at the people who have left the club – are they happy?

“You get used to winning. I don’t think I could now play for a game that wins once every three, four or five games.”

Connor Goldson also knows more than most about the difficult decision one has to make when their contract at Rangers is ticking down.

The ex-Brighton defender signed a four-year extension in the summer of 2021 and – amid a devastating injury this season – the Ibrox star’s importance to the team has been exemplified since.

Rangers heavily rely on the now 30-year-old and it is clear that the team are a different outfit without their vocal and commanding leader at centre-back.

But the big defender also speaks sense; Joe Aribo finds himself out of the relegation-threatened Southampton team whilst Calvin Bassey has been heavily-criticised with Ajax losing their grip on the Eredivisie.

The decision is certainly that of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, but heeding the words of Connor Goldson might not be a bad idea as Rangers look resurgent under Michael Beale.

Meanwhile, Charlie McCann is one day eyeing a return to Ibrox.
