Norwich City have reportedly rejected a bid for midfielder Todd Cantwell as talk of a Rangers medical appears to have been proven immature.
Todd Cantwell, 24, is a product of the Norwich City youth system and had previously impressed as a youngster at Premier League level.
Out of contract in the summer, Rangers are now free to speak with the player with links first appearing in the press last week and belief in a cut-price deal snowballing after the victory over Dundee United.
Comments from Michael Beale had plenty excited about a move and the likes of Vital Rangers even claimed the player was in Glasgow to discuss terms on a deal with a medical seemingly imminent.
But those reports have been cooled by the likes of Sky Sports who – whilst confirming Rangers’ interest – claim no official bid has been lodged.
However, the report does claim that Norwich City have already rejected a bid for the midfielder from an unnamed English Championship club.
Todd Cantwell to Rangers still a work in progress
The news will disappoint Rangers fans who had been somewhat led to believe that Todd Cantwell was imminently set to become the first signing of the Michael Beale era at Ibrox.
Gers boss Michael Beale answered questions regarding the ex-England U21 international after the 2-0 victory over Dundee United following links in the press last week.
“Todd was an excellent player when he was young and playing against my Liverpool Under 23s,” said Michael Beale [Rangers].
“I thought he would go on and have a fantastic career. He had that at the start and he is maybe just looking for a move to re-ingite it but I think he is a fantastic player at a good age.”
Todd Cantwell seemingly still remains a target for Rangers but it’s clear that a deal to bring the player from Norwich City isn’t quite as far down the line as expected.
Meanwhile, a new player has entered the field amid Rangers links to an international striker.
