Bundesliga duo linked as five clubs reportedly swirl around Rangers star

Bundesliga pair Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen are the latest clubs to be linked with a move for Rangers teenager Leon King.

The 18-year-old centre-back appears to be hot property with the Germans joining Premier League trio Man United, Newcastle United and Leeds United in being linked.

At least that’s according to Football Insider, who claim that the Frankfurt and Leverkusen have “registered an interest” in the player as he continues to get first-team exposure at Rangers.

The situation is also complicated by Leon King’s contract situation, with Rangers well aware the Ibrox talent’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

This essentially means that Rangers would need to cash in on the youngster in the next two transfer windows or risk losing him for nothing.

Rangers kid Leon King grabbing Ibrox chance

Leon King has already made 12 appearances for Rangers this season as a defensive crisis at Ibrox offers the highly-rated youngster increased opportunity.

Injuries to Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and John Souttar means there will be a lot of opportunities for Leon this season and King has already began to grab them with both hands for Rangers.

Speaking to club media after the weekend’s 2-1 victory away to Motherwell, King claimed that he is working hard and keeping his feet on the ground amid those exit links.

“It is amazing, but I need to keep my head down and keep going,” said King [Rangers].

“I just need to keep working with the coaching staff every single day to make myself better.

“Obviously, we have had a tough week and we came here having to bounce back from a tough defeat in the Champions League.

“At times it wasn’t pretty, but we came here, got the job done and got the three points in the end.

“I know I’m the young one in the team, but I am proud of the players today. We stood up, we were counted, and we got the win.

“At a club like Rangers the expectation is to win, but that is what you need to do for the club, the manager and the fans especially.”

Meanwhile, Rangers reportedly came close to signing a striking sensation from last season who is currently plying his trade in Eastern Europe.
