Tom Davies won’t be joining and Michael Beale and Rangers from Everton as things stand – because of an injury to ex-Arsenal star Alex Iwobi.

At least that’s according to Football Insider, who claim the Toffees have been forced to rethink the 24-year-old’s situation after Nigerian international Iwobi picked up a knock.

Traditionally a left-winger, Alex Iwobi has also been employed as a central midfielder in the Everton set-up and Tom Davies is viewed as necessary back-up whilst the player spends up to three weeks on the treatment table.

The reported £35m ex-Arsenal star sustained an ankle ligament injury in the 3-1 Everton FA Cup defeat to Man United over the weekend.

If the report is accurate, the news will come as a blow to Rangers fans who’d gotten excited about the prospect of signing Tom Davies after comments by Michael Beale following the 2-0 win over Dundee United.

The Rangers manager was pressed on reported transfer targets and claimed that Tom Davies is someone that he admires from facing the midfielder during a stint with the Liverpool U23s.

“Tom Davies, he used to kick my Liverpool Under 23s team all around the place,” said Beale [Rangers].

“There’s a bit of John Lundstram about him. I’m not confirming anything with those two [including Todd Cantwell]. But there’s a lot of players we are speaking to at the moment.”

Tom Davies out of the picture at struggling Everton

Tom Davies has made only 10 Premier League appearances for Everton this season, including only four starts, with his Goodison Park career impacted by a serious knee injury last season.

The midfielder only stated two Premier League matches last season but has made an impressive 169 appearances in all competitions on Merseyside.

Out of contract in the summer, the situation involving Tom Davies is certainly one to watch but at present it appears Everton are not ready to sell to Rangers.

Everton currently sit 18th in the English Premier League, with Frank Lampard’s side occupying a spot in the relegation zone on goal difference with only 15 points from 18 matches.

Meanwhile, Alex Kpakpe has broken his silence after swapping Chelsea for Rangers.
