It looks increasingly likely that former Rangers defender Calvin Bassey will get his chance to once again walk out at Ibrox as he continues at the heart of the Ajax defence.
The Dutch giants started with the Nigerian international alongside Jurrien Timber at centre-back for their weekend trip to Utrecht as they ran out 2-0 winners on the road.

Summer signings Steven Bergwijn – who joined from Tottenham Hotspur – and Brian Brobbey – who joined from RB Leipzig – scored both goals in the first-half to send Ajax two points clear in the table.
As Calvin Bassey continues at centre-back in the Netherlands, it drops a hint regarding where the player could line up should he be given the nod against Rangers.
Calvin Bassey lines up Rangers return with Ajax
Rangers will have one eye on Ajax’s result leading up to the Group A opening day clash with the Dutch club in Amsterdam next week with Calvin Bassey now odds on to start the game.
The Gers will also end their Group A campaign by welcoming Ajax and Calvin Bassey on the 1st of November in what could prove a decisive final game in a tight group.
Rangers and Ajax have been drawn alongside Liverpool and Napoli in a group of historic football clubs with huge histories in the domestic and European game.
It promises to be an enthralling encounter and Ajax even recognised the Calvin Bassey factor by tweeting a picture of the defender reacting to the draw with Rangers.
Rangers sold Calvin Bassey to Ajax this summer in a reported £23m deal that broke the club’s record transfer sale.
Rangers have since reinvested a portion of the money into signing the likes of Ben Davies (£4m from Liverpool) and Ridvan Yilmaz (£5m from Besiktas).
But the Gers are also expected to use a combination of this cash and the Champions League qualification money to re-enter the market to add quality ahead of the European campaign.

So whilst Calvin Bassey would realistically line-up against several of his former teammates when Ajax face Rangers, it’s likely there could be some fresh faces in there too.
Meanwhile, the Rangers debate surrounding one international footballer has been settled as he officially moves elsewhere.
