As Rangers prepare to welcome PSV Eindhoven to Ibrox as part of a Champions League Playoff tie a player who may well have been turning out at Ibrox in Guus Til will travel with the Dutch club.

The 24-year-old Dutch international midfielder has signed for the Eredivisie hopefuls this summer as part of an impressive recruitment drive that sees the club genuine title contenders in the country.

Guus Til joins PSV on a four-year deal from Russian outfit Spartak Moscow after spending last season on loan at Feyenoord and joins a competitive midfield at the Philips Stadion.

Signed by Spartak Moscow for a mouth-watering reported £15.2m (€18m) in 2019 [Football Oranje] after impressing with AZ Alkmaar, Til has barely spent any time in Russia since moving there.

PSV midfielder Guus Til claims he chose Germany over Rangers

In total the midfielder made only 24 appearances for Spartak and after one season went on loan to the Bundesliga with SC Freiburg, a year before he returned to the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

It was ahead of that move to Germany that the midfielder himself has previously claimed that Rangers made a bid to convince him to sign on loan at Ibrox.

However, Guus Til claims he turned down the opportunity to play under Steven Gerrard in what was a legendary title winning season for the Ibrox side.

“I could also have gone to PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Rangers, but I think the Bundesliga is the best of all competitions for me and I look forward to playing in it,” Til said, as quoted by De Telegraaf.

“I’ve heard from many people that Freiburg are a very family-run club and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Things didn’t quite work out in Germany, with Guus Til struggling to break into the Bundesliga side between injury and a lack of form and perhaps he may regret not moving to Rangers in end.

Now set to turn out at Ibrox with PSV Eindhoven – who only paid a reported £3.3m for the player this summer – the previous links suggest Rangers are already well aware of the midfielder’s qualities.

Guus Til won’t be the only player Rangers have an eye on heading into this challenging Playoff clash and the midfielder also isn’t the only Ibrox-linked player in the PSV squad.

One of the midfielder’s teammates was extensively linked to Ibrox last summer and is now a stand-out performer for the Dutch club.
