Ex-Rangers star Andy Halliday has backed former teammate Glen Kamara to bounce back from a recent slump in form now Michael Beale has taken charge.

The Finnish international midfielder might not even have been at Ibrox this season had reported £10m exit links to Ligue 1 OGC Nice been realised but the last few months haven’t been Kamara’s best in Light Blue.

The ex-Arsenal academy kid was a stand-out performer in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team and at 27-years-old is entering the prime period of his career.

But Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst struggled to find a place for Glen Kamara in his system at times and even employed the player as a number 10 at various points during his tenure.

After those summer exit links never came to fruition, there has been plenty of talk of interest in Glen Kamara this January with the likes of Serie A Salernitana at the top of the list.

But now Andy Halliday has backed Glen Kamara to have something of a redemption story at Rangers with the midfielder said to be amongst the favourite players of ex-Ibrox assistant Michael Beale.

Michael Beale tipped to get the best out of Glen Kamara

“I’ve already made a prediction that Glen Kamara will be in the starting line-up come December 15th against Hibs,” said Andy Halliday [Clyde SSB].

“I’d say [Kamara was amongst Beale’s favourite players]. Kamara and Joe Aribo were always his two favourites I thought. They are both great trainers.

“I think the optimism is that he’s going to get the best out of players who have underperformed this season.”

Rangers fans will be delighted to get more from Glen Kamara, who signed a new contract at Ibrox right before Steven Gerrard and co left for Aston Villa.

Contracted to Ibrox until 2025, many Rangers fans believe Kamara hasn’t been the same since the likes of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey left the club.

If Michael Beale can get the ex-Dundee man back firing in the middle of the park it’ll be a major boost to the club’s chances as they look to haul back points in the Premiership title race.

Meanwhile, here’s how QPR reacted to the appointment of Michael Beale at Rangers.
