Reports in Mexico suggest that Rangers are prepared to rip up Carlos Pena’s contract.
According to Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old cost Rangers £2.7 million from Chivas in July 2017.
A Mexican international, he arrived with a big reputation.
He never quite got going with the Gers, though. Some deals don’t work out – that’s football.
However, in this instance, continued poor form and off field issues ensured the club have been unable to sell the midfielder on.
In the middle of a three-year deal, Pena is contracted to the club until May 2020.

It has been suggested that Rangers will be forking out over £20,000-a-week should he see out that deal.
Therefore, if the club are looking to terminate it early, it’s unlikely to be cheap.
Perhaps, the thinking is that a hit in the short term will be beneficial in the long run.
It has long been established that Pena is no longer an asset to the football club.
After mustering 14 appearances up until the end of December 2017, he didn’t feature at all last season.
Instead, he explored options elsewhere through unsuccessful loan spells.
If Rangers are about to make this major call though, surely it will briefly tie up any remaining funds for transfers and wages.
Of course, the manager may already be genuinely happy with what he has got.
In that case, taking action now, could mean much greater freedom for business in the summer.
