On Tuesday evening, Josh McPake netted once again, as the Rangers Colts booked a spot in the Third Round of the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup.
With the tie still goalless almost an hour in, the 17-year-old pounced on a stray pass and travelled with the ball, before finishing from the edge of the area.

It was his second in two games in the cup competition, having netted against Berwick Rangers a week previous. He also scored in his previous outing against a Chelsea XI at the Hummel Training Centre.

Will Rangers Colts display help land McPake first-team spot?

This run of form has come at a good time for the exciting teenager, who can play out wide or up front.
That’s because a League Cup tie beckons for the first team, away at East Fife on Sunday.
Following the second leg of Rangers’ Europa League Third Round Qualifying tie against FC Midtjylland on Thursday evening, the manager is almost certain to make sweeping changes for the trip to Methil.

The likes of Greg Docherty, Jake Hastie, George Edmundson and Wes Foderingham, all currently on the fringes of the first team, are likely to be involved.
Given that McPake managed to net against a League One side on Tuesday night, there’s no reason he couldn’t repeat the dose at the weekend if given an opportunity.
Stevie G clearly rates the youngster, handing him a senior competitive debut against St Joseph’s last month. Now, though, an opportunity presents itself to introduce him in a domestic fixture.
Given the strength in depth the Gers have, it’s perhaps unlikely he’ll get a start. Hopefully, though, depending on the scoreline, the manager might back him to come on late in the game to make an impact.
