Time to cut losses or could duo wreak havoc with Rangers next season?

When Rangers raided NK Osijek last summer for the services of both Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda, they spent a combined total of £4 million [Transfermarkt].
The ideal scenario following their arrival was the two stars earning first-team spots, rekindling a partnership and wreaking havoc down the left flank.

Unfortunately, that simply hasn’t materialised.
Both players have faced time on the sidelines through injury. Barisic has been plagued mainly by hamstring problems, while Grezda picked up a nasty foot injury during the midseason camp in Tenerife.

Clearly, those unforeseen circumstances have hindered their progress. Yet, even when they have been fully fit, they have frustrated with their performances.
Barisic started strongly and it looked as though his crossing from the left would be a real weapon across the season. Yet, we haven’t seen much marauding from him since September. Right now, he’s not getting any game time at all due to a resurgent Jon Flanagan.
Grezda, has offered even less, though. His one promising display came against a hapless 10-man Motherwell who were hammered 7-1 at Ibrox. Apart from his brace and assist that day, he’s contributed nothing to the cause.

Two international appearances in March looked a good springboard for improved club form. Yet, he’s only turned out twice since – both times as a substitute.

Should Gerrard offload or keep the faith?

In the case of Barisic, his early performances suggest there’s a real player in there.
He’s looked a bit brittle, but recently came out to say his relationship with the manager is still good [Sportske Jutarnji]. I can still see him nailing down that left-back spot and being part of a successful side next season.

Contrastingly, Grezda has shown next to nothing to suggest he has what it takes. His comments about prioritising the Albanian national team [Daily Record] were disrespectful and Rangers will have plenty of choices in wide areas next season.
If the Gers can recoup some of their investment, it might be best to move him on in the coming months.
