Time may be running out for Jordan Rossiter at Rangers

Jordan Rossiter may be on borrowed time at Ibrox.

Earlier in the week, we reported on the staggering amount of matches the midfielder has missed, since joining the Gers in 2016.

Thankfully, the midfielder is currently injury-free, but despite that, he isn’t having a great time of it.

Steven Gerrard made it clear that he would have to earn a place back in the side after such a long time out. True to his word, several match day squads came and went without Rossiter’s inclusion.

A lacklustre midfield performance against Aberdeen, gave him his opportunity in the following fixture at Dundee, last Sunday. However, he failed to take his chance.

The consequences? Being substituted before the hour mark.

Yet, it didn’t stop there. Further ignominy awaited. Although he travelled to Vienna during the week, it was to turn out for Rangers’ u20s against Rapid’s academy.

He grabbed an assist and played the full 90 minutes in a 4-2 comeback win.

With a frustrated Steven Gerrard stating after the Dundee game that he can’t continue to give chances indefinitely, Rossiter needs to prove his worth quickly.

The midfielder’s contract runs until 2020. However, as we have seen in the case of Lee Wallace, a contract doesn’t make you immune from being frozen out of the first team altogether.

Don’t expect to see Rossiter involved tomorrow. For now, it’s on the training ground where he needs to fight to win over his manager.
