Ever since Steven Gerrard arrived at Rangers, he’s shown himself to be adept at handling the media.
It was no different on Friday afternoon, as can be seen from quotes published on the club’s website.
The manager was asked to address comments made by Dave King earlier in the week.

During his letter to fans concerning season ticket renewals, the Chairman said Rangers were on the verge of dominating Scottish football once more.
It was a big statement, and one Gerrard was keen to distance himself from.
“In terms of his [King’s] statement, he is well within his rights to say what he believes and what his opinion is,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the club’s website. “In terms of tangible Scottish dominance for me, I don’t think it is sensible for me to make any predictions.
“For me, the challenge is to have this squad and this team ready to compete for what is available next season. I don’t really have to look further than that.”
He then went on to assert that in order to do that, he needs considerable financial backing.

Gerrard spot on again
It would have been easy for the manager to just tow the party line and agree with the Chairman.
However, he’s under enough pressure as it is, without having promises of dominance hanging over him.
He recognised what King said and didn’t knock it, but reiterated his own personal goals. It was also a well-taken opportunity to stress the need for funding.
Consequently, it’s up to King put his money where his mouth is, while Gerrard can simply continue to focus on short-term aims.
