Should Gerrard reconsider his Rangers left-back pecking order?

As Rangers romped to a 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock on Wednesday night, Alfredo Morelos was the star of the show.
He scored four on his return, drawing massive praise from the fans.

However, one other player found the net, and he has snuck under the radar.
Andy Halliday.
This season has seen a real renaissance from the Rangers stalwart.

Called upon to deputise at left-back for large parts of the first half of the season, he rarely put a foot wrong.
A man of the match performance in the Old Firm led him into the winter break on the crest of a wave.
However, with Borna Barisic back to full fitness by January, he lost his place in the side.

Few would have questioned the call at the time.

Barisic came in for a reported £2.2 million in the summer, and looked the real deal before injuries struck.

No longer an easy decision

In finding the net on Wednesday, Halliday registered his third goal of the season. That’s a useful return for a player mainly deployed as part of a back four.
Barisic, on the other hand, is yet to open his account and despite a promising start, has only registered two league assists.
Of course, goals and assists are added extras when it comes to full-backs. Yet, Halliday has rarely looked troubled in a defensive sense either.

In my view, the Croatian summer signing deserves a little more time. He hasn’t quite got back to his best level yet, but when there, he’s clearly an excellent asset.
However, it’s no longer a straightforward case of a guaranteed first-choice and a deputy.
Halliday is mounting a genuine claim for that left-back berth.
