Rangers should consider move for Rapid Vienna assist king

With only five matches left in the SPL season, Steven Gerrard is bound to be trying to identify summer transfer targets.
One player who should feature in the reckoning is Christoph Knasmullner.

It’s a name which should be familiar to Rangers fans.
After all, he provided the assist for the Dejan Ljubicic goal which knocked the Gers out of the Europa League in December.
That’s far from his only contribution in the final third this season, though.

Across all competitions, he has accumulated nine goals and 14 assists [Transfermarkt] so far. Those are extremely impressive numbers.

At 26, he should be entering his prime and could bolster a problem position for Rangers.

recent tactical change may have helped improve effectiveness in the final third, but it would be naive to think the Gers no longer need an injection of creativity in order to challenge.
Valued at £1.8 million [Transfermarkt], Knasmullner wouldn’t cost the earth either.
The Austrian had a short stint with Barnsley in 2018, but while that may not have worked out, he does have pedigree. He spent time in Bayern Munich’s youth system and was later on the books at Inter Milan.

Rangers have previous in terms of swooping for former European rivals, after the signings of Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda from NK Osijek.
This summer, there might just be a cause to repeat the trick
