According to the Daily Record, Rangers sent scouts to watch the Croatian Super Cup over the weekend.

An Amer Gojak goal was enough for Dinamo Zagreb to defeat Rijeka, despite the eventual victors being reduced to ten men in the closing stages.

It’s said that Rangers were one of several teams with scouts at the game. La Liga giants Valencia and Bundesliga outfit Schalke were both also represented.

The mission suggests that Rangers yet again have an interest in raiding the Balkan country.

Last summer, Gerrard signed both Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda from NK Osijek. Furthermore, he recruited the powerful Nikola Katic from Slaven Belupo.

Those signings have produced a mixed bag of results so far. Katic quickly became a fan favourite, Barisic is clearly a quality operator but has struggled with injuries, while Grezda struggled to make any impression whatsoever.

The now regrettable move for the Albanian international doesn’t seem to have put Rangers off this market, though.

For now, it’s unclear which particular players were under the microscope.

However, we know Stevie G is still open to the idea of adding to his squad.

“In terms of incomings, we’re near enough done,” he said at the weekend, as quoted by the Daily Record. “I always say near enough, you’re never done as a manager but there won’t be much more activity in terms of incomings.”

“We’ve got quality players in each position and we’ve got people fighting for places.”

Was there a player who caught the eye sufficiently for the Gers to make a move over the coming weeks? Only time will tell on this one.
