On Wednesday afternoon, Rangers defeated The New Saints FC 1-0 in a friendly at the Hummel Training Centre.

However, there was a noticeable absentee among the club’s attacking options.
Alfredo Morelos was nowhere to be seen on the teamsheets. Instead, Jermain Defoe led the line in the first half, before Greg Stewart appeared to slot into no.9 for the second period.
Considering we’re right in the middle of a transfer window, the unexplained absence represented a cause for concern.
However, a photo from an official Rangers match gallery, uploaded on Wednesday evening, appears to allay any fears.
While his face is partially obscured by his manager, Morelos appears to be sitting in the dugout watching on.

He’s wasn’t AWOL or negotiating with another club after all.
However, as that primary fear is dismissed, another one arrives in its place. It seems the only explanation for him being present at Auchenhowie but missing the fixture, is an injury.
There has been no announcement from the club or Gerrard, suggesting that the potential problem isn’t overly serious.

Yet, with the first leg of the Europa League QR1 tie against St Joseph’s less than a week away, he must surely be listed as doubtful.
Even if his absence against TNS was precautionary, the forward has very little game time under his belt. 30 minutes against Mansfield Town, is the sum of his match preparation to date.
Let’s hope he’s fit and available for next week. Whenever the match does take place, it would be beneficial to have El Bufalo firing against St Joseph’s.
