As the anticipation builds towards Saturday’s huge Old Firm clash at Ibrox, Rangers are looking for a match-winner.
One player in their ranks has proven time and again over the course of his career, that he thrives on the big occasion.
Kyle Lafferty.
During his first spell at Ibrox, on international duty for Northern Ireland, and in his season at Hearts, he stepped up time and again.
His career stats show that he has never been a prolific goal scorer. 13 in 37 matches at Hearts represents his best goals per game ratio at any club.
However, in the big moments under the big pressure, he can deliver.
As a result, perhaps the stage is set for a telling Lafferty contribution tomorrow.
He is unlikely to be involved from the start. Gerrard resisted temptation to switch formation against Hibs and will probably stick to the usual one up top against the Hoops.
Yet, should the match be hanging in the balance, Lafferty is likely to get a run out for at least the last 20 minutes.
The big Ulsterman is currently on a run of 15 matches without a goal for club or country. He has hit the woodwork and been denied by some excellent saves, but surely his luck is due to change.
One thing’s for sure, all his struggles will be forgotten if he nets the winner on derby day.
