A familiar story unfolded yesterday, one that mirrored recent experiences away at Dundee and Hibs.
Rangers dominated another game of football, yet, ultimately, dropped two points.
Hibs certainly had their chances throughout the match. This wasn’t as one-sided as the Easter Road fixture the week previous.
Nonetheless, statistically, Rangers were on top in every department.
More shots (ten to seven), more shots on target (four to two), more possession (58% to 42%) and more corners (seven to three).
With those sorts of numbers, a draw simply should not be the outcome. Time and time again though, that is the reality.
In fairness, Rangers were clinical in the first half. Morelos’ goal was the only shot the hosts mustered in the opening 45 minutes.
However, conversely, that just highlights the wastefulness of the second period.
Instead of the goal releasing the shackles and bringing more, once again, it proved difficult to build upon.
Two goals in the last four home fixtures simply isn’t good enough. All teams go through sticky patches over the course of a season, but a month of underachieving can be ruinous.
The last time Rangers mustered more than one goal against an opponent at Ibrox was in late November, against Livingston.
If the Gers are to get anything out of Saturday’s Old Firm, that record may have to change.
