With the arrivals of Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe, Rangers have added injected more of a key ingredient into their squad.
Experience.
In general, Steven Gerrard’s squad is youthful and raw.
The likes of Alfredo Morelos, Ross McCrorie, Ryan Kent, Glenn Middleton and Joe Worrall are all 22 or under, yet are important figures in the first team.
Wise heads are needed when challenging for silverware, that much is obvious.
Yet, previously, only Allan McGregor and Gareth McAuley could genuinely be described as veterans.
Now, with the new additions, Rangers have a wealth of experience to call on throughout the spine of the team.
In fact, their four most senior players have a ridiculous amount of career appearances.
McGregor, McAuley, Davis and Defoe boast a combined total of 2081 senior league matches.

That’s an incredible amount of football. Most of it, at, or close to, the highest level.
As the oldest of the group, it’s no surprise that Gareth McAuley contributes the most. 604 games, spread across eight different clubs.
Defoe has 563, Davis 458 and McGregor 456.
The four have also accumulated a whopping 286 international caps.
Vital additions
Age may not on their side and they may not start every week, but they offer Steven Gerrard a lot, both on and off the pitch.
The youthful members of the squad may have to pick up some extra leg work. Yet, these guys can make up for advancing years with quality and knowhow.
Rangers’ rivals will undoubtedly look on enviously at this quartet.
Having even half of these experience levels in any dressing room, would be a major asset for any side.
