Martyn Waghorn left Ibrox in August 2017, to join Ipswich Town. The Gers received a not inconsiderable £990k for the forward, who netted 27 league goals during his time in Glasgow.
However, almost exactly a year after arriving at Portman Road, he was off again.
This time, to Derby County, for a whopping £5 million. That was after notching a commendable 16 goals in the Championship during the previous season.
Has Waghorn proved a hit at Pride Park?
The stats would suggest not.
He has made 21 appearances and scored four times, so far. Yet, only two of those strikes have come in the league.
It represents a relatively meagre return for a player who commanded such a fee.
Clearly, he remains very much in manager, Frank Lampard’s plans, though.
Waghorn has appeared in each of the Rams’ last five matches, albeit twice from the bench.
He is a player who left Ibrox on relatively good terms, having shown good application over two seasons with the club.
In fact, he still regularly sends supportive messages to his former side.
The 28-year-old may not be lighting up the Championship this season, but he remains a good player.
Derby are an ambitious club, currently sitting in the play-off spots.
If this ex-Ger gets his head down and finds a bit of form, he could soon find himself in the Premier League.
