Steven Gerrard was in good spirits during his interview with RangersTV after Saturday’s win over Hearts.

The Gers dominated right from the off and were deservedly three up shortly after half-time.

The Jambos did manage to pull one back through Stephen MacLean, but the result was never in doubt.

When appraising how his team managed to deal with the home side’s threat, Gerrard seemed to simultaneously suggest there is little truth to a recent transfer story.

Earlier this month, The Sun reported that both Rangers and Celtic were interested in Uche Ikeapzu.

Yet, after the game, Gerrard didn’t sound overly impressed by what the forward brought to the fixture.

“We stood up to Hearts”, he told RangersTV.

“You know when you come to Tynecastle they’re going to be physical with you. The big guy up front tries to back in and lean and foul and they can be awkward at times.”

I’m not sure too many managers in the past have referred to legitimate targets as ‘big guy’, rather than using their name.

Gerrard’s comments about Ikpeazu and Hearts’ play, in general, appeared to carry disdain rather than admiration.

The 6ft 3′ English striker may have proved he could perform on the big stage last weekend, but after today’s display and these comments from Gerrard, an Ibrox move looks highly unlikely.
