Steven Gerrard has spoken out about his centre-backs, following the win over Celtic, as quoted by the Daily Record.
The manager was delighted with his players, who dominated from the first whistle to the last at Ibrox.

Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson barely put a foot wrong in the heart of defence. The fact that Celtic only mustered one shot on target across the 90 minutes, is a testament to that.
“With Niko, the way I look at the central defenders is that you have three for two places,” explained Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Niko, Connor Goldson, and Joe Worrall have been the ones who have fought for the shirts.”
These comments don’t reflect overly well on Gareth McAuley.

The Gers picked up the veteran international on a free back in September. However, he was carrying an injury when that deal went through and further problems have rendered him unavailable for significant portions of the season.

While he’s been back in training for some time now, he hasn’t been in a matchday squad since the 3-0 win at Livingston in late January.

With his contract up at the end of the season [Transfermarkt], he’s set to leave the club after making just ten appearances.
It doesn’t sound as though Stevie G will be too perturbed by the departure though, considering he clearly hasn’t considered the 39-year-old as a viable option, for some time.
