Former Rangers boss Warburton provides encouraging Wallace update

QPR manager Mark Warburton has provided an encouraging update on former Rangers skipper Lee Wallace, as quoted by West London Sport.

Wallace served as captain under Warburton during the Englishman’s stint in the Ibrox hot seat and back in June, made the move south of the border to join him at Loftus Road.

It was a clean slate for the 32-year-old after the trials and tribulations of the last few seasons in Glasgow.

However, things haven’t gone to plan so far. A persistent hip injury suffered whilst at Rangers has ensured he is yet to make his competitive debut, despite the R’s being a month into their league season.

Encouragingly, though, it sounds as though there’s now light at the end of the tunnel.

“Probably not Wednesday but he’s not far away now, which is great,” said Warburton when questioned on Wallace’s availability, as quoted by West London Sport. “Having a player of his experience and quality will be fantastic for us.”

“He’s a really experienced, high-quality player and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in the blue and white shirt.”

Verdict

Warburton has always thought highly of Wallace and rightly so. He stuck by Rangers through thick and thin and performed consistently well as first-choice left-back for many seasons.

The Scotland international is bound to take a while to get back up to full speed, though. He hasn’t started a competitive fixture since a 2-2 draw away at Partick Thistle way back in September 2017 [Soccerbase].

He’ll be itching to get back to action and these words from his manager show he’s very much part of his plans.

Let’s hope there’ll be no setbacks this time around and he’ll soon be marauding down the left in the English Championship.
