Before the start of pre-season, we took a look at the prospects of Jamie Barjonas.
Following a solid but unspectacular loan spell at League One side Raith Rovers, he looked to be coming to a crossroads in his Gers career.

The midfielder had turned out for the first-team multiple times as a teenager but hasn’t seen action there since December 2017.
However, while the likes of Jason Holt and Graham Dorrans were left out of the pre-season trip to Portugal, Barjonas got the nod. Since then, other young midfielders like Stephen Kelly and Cammy Palmer have been sent out on loan. Yet, Barjonas remains.
While others have been taken out of the equation, the 20-year-old continues to feature.
He got half an hour under his belt at Ibrox ten days ago, replacing Joe Aribo in the 5-0 win over Oxford United. He then played the last fifteen minutes of Sunday’s hammering of Marseille, coming on for James Tavernier.

Meanwhile, he’s been taking opportunities to impress for the Development team. On Tuesday, he scored from range in a fixture against EFL League Two outfit, Cambridge United.
It certainly says something that Barjonas is playing so much football despite the extensive midfield resources Gerrard has at his disposal.
It’s highly unlikely he’ll be getting a starting spot when the regular seasons starts. However, he’s already seen off a lot of competition. Therefore, if he can continue to impress over the coming weeks, he could bring himself further into the reckoning for a spot in SPL matchday squads.
