It looks like speculation over the future of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, is set to continue.
The 39-year-old has been linked with two management positions in England over recent weeks – Derby County [Daily Record] and Newcastle United [Chronicle].

Philip Cocu has since taken over from Lampard as Derby boss [BBC Sport]. Therefore, that rumour has been nipped in the bud.
In a further development, on Sunday evening,
the Mirror reported that Gerrard had turned down a job offer from Newcastle’s Mike Ashley.
At that point, it looked as though things would finally calm down. Gerrard would be left to concentrate on preparations for 2019/20 in Glasgow.
However, a report from The Times which emerged on Monday afternoon suggests Rangers aren’t out of the woods just yet.

It’s suggested that contrary to the Mirror’s assertions, Newcastle are yet to move for Gerrard.
Theoretically, then, a switch to the Premier League club is still a possibility.

Verdict

These rumours surrounding Gerrard’s future are becoming somewhat tiresome. While the Premier League has an undoubted lure for players and managers alike, surely he won’t jump ship on Rangers.
The Newcastle job is a poisoned chalice, with the club establishing a reputation over the last decade for burning through managers. Not only that, but despite the pressure that comes with the job, those in the hot seat are rarely backed financially.
At Rangers, Gerrard is overseeing a revolution both on and off the pitch. He’s building a squad to compete for silverware and in Europe and he doesn’t seem the type of man to leave a project unfinished.
