Club boss' comments on Lawrence Shankland should alert Rangers

Ayr United Chairman, Lachlan Cameron, claims he will help Lawrence Shankland get a big move this summer, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.
Shankland has been one of the most prolific strikers in the country this season. He scored his side’s only goal against Alloa on Saturday, leaving him on 34 from 39 appearances this season.

Those returns have helped The Honest Men into a playoff position in their first season back in the Championship. Yet, even if they earn a place in the top flight, the 23-year-old will be on the move.
“I can’t see any situation where we would be able to hold on to Lawrence, even if we win promotion,” explained Cameron, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times. “Part of the deal when he signed again last year was that we would help facilitate a move for him come the end of this season, and we’re getting towards the end of the season and that’s still the plan.”

“We won’t stand in his way. He’s done well by us and we’re prepared to back him and I think it’s only a good thing for us as a club. If we want to be able to attract players like Lawrence we need to help them eventually get to a higher level.”

Rangers should be on high alert

Shankland is clearly going to be playing his football elsewhere next season.
Surely, given that knowledge, the Gers should be preparing to swoop. With his contract expiring, he would be a free transfer. Therefore, there’s no financial risk involved in moving for him.
Of course, Shankland isn’t yet proven in the top flight, but there can’t be a better indication that he would be a success, than 30+ goals in the second tier. Gerrard would be adding predatory instinct to his squad.
He’s said to be a Rangers fan, so it would be a dream move. Furthermore, in Jermain Defoe, he would have the best possible teammate to learn from.
Time to make a move on this one, before it’s too late.
