On Friday evening, Rangers U18s put on a fine display to defeat rivals Hibernian, in East Mains.

Recent signings Umaro Balde and Krystof Hampl were in action, alongside more established Academy players like goalkeeper Jay Hogarth and attackers, Chris McKee and Matty Yates.

It was a cagey first half where neither side managed to produce in the final third.

However, things were to come alive for the Young Gers in the second period.

Shortly after the break, Yates, who is enjoying a fine season in front of goal, put his side 1-0 up.

Then came an important moment in the game. ‘Keeper, Jay Hogarth, made a fine diving penalty save to keep his side in the lead.

Seemingly inspired by the stop, thereafter, Rangers took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Rangers U16 regular, Dire Mebude, who came on as a substitute, made it 2-0 before Yates grabbed his second.

There was time for a late fourth to put the gloss on things too, with Robbie Ure, who has also been starring for the U16s of late, coming off the bench to net.

An impressive display for the Gers, then, who had to work for it early on, but secured the win after a second-half blitz.
