Rangers U18s dispatched Dundee with ease on Wednesday evening, in what was the final youth fixture of 2019.
Following on from his stunning strike as a substitute in the Development squad’s win over Aberdeen earlier in the week, it didn’t take Ross McCausland long to get back amongst the goals here.
With less than five minutes on the clock, his cross took a considerable deflection and looped over the opposition keeper’s head and into the far corner.
That early strike settled the hosts and they doubled their advantage before the 20-minute mark courtesy of Cole McKinnon. His well-taken half volley from an Adam Devine layoff capped a fine start to the game.
McKinnon was at it again before the break, this time firing home from the edge of the area.
The Young Gers led 3-0 at half-time, then, with things looking ominous for the visitors.
However, after the interval, as Rangers made multiple substitutions, the Dee came back into the game and capitalised on a mistake to reduce the arrears.
More changes abounded for the hosts, with Dire Mebude, younger brother of Dapo, getting a runout following strong form for the U16s.
It was he who found Ross McCausland in space in the final stages, who promptly fired home to round off the scoring.
4-1 at full-time, then, and another outstanding result for the Rangers academy.
According to the Rangers Youth Updates account, that signals the end of youth fixtures for 2019, which has been a year of myriad successes.
