Rangers U18s defeated Hamilton 2-0 on Tuesday night and, unsurprisingly, prolific young striker Rory Wilson was on the scoresheet.

The Young Gers lost 4-3 to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park at the beginning of the month but they bounced back against the same opposition last week and continued their good work at Rangers Training Centre against Accies to stay in touch with the league leaders.

Cameron Campbell named a strong-looking side for the fixture against bottom-of-the-table opposition, with the likes of Greig Allen, Robbie Ure and Tyler Pasnik all handed starts.

Accies provided perhaps more resistance than expected, though, and it took the Young Gers over half an hour to find a breakthrough against the run of play.

Darren McInally was the goalscorer, with the midfielder netting in the 33rd minute with his second attempt following a cross from Ure [Rfcyouths.wordpress.com].

The hosts then doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time through the prolific Wilson.

The 15-year-old bagged consecutive hat-tricks at this level earlier in the season, starred for Scotland U17s last month and netted in both of the recent games against Killie, and he scored again here with a simple close-range finish after being set up by Pasnik.

A number of players were given opportunities off the bench in the second half, including James Graham – a promising striker who has struggled with injuries since joining from Ross County in the summer of 2020 – but there would be no further goals in the game.

The victory moved the Young Gers into third in the table on 19 points from 11 matches, one point behind both Dundee United and Hearts [Rfcyouths.wordpress.com].

However, Hibs are only three points behind Campbell’s side and have a whopping five games in hand.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night, a Rangers star’s World Cup hopes were cruelly ended by a defeat.
